چکیده

In previous studies, we examined pure U(4) [1] and SU(4) [2] lattice gauge theories in four spacet ime dimensions. Since first-order phase transitions were found in both of these theories, it seems reasonable that these theories should be studied together so that they can be compared and contrasted. To make a more detailed exploration of the phase transitions in these theories, we study the string tensions, via the Wilson loops, for these gauge groups. The decoupling of the SU(4) and U(1) components of the U(4) gauge group, in the low-temperature region, should be observed so that U(4) and SU(4) gauge theories should merely be shifted in the inverse temperature. Both U(4) and SU(4) color should be confined while the U(1) charges of U(4) gauge theory should be deconfined. Similar behavior has recently been observed for the gauge groups U(2) [3], SU(2) [4], U(3) [5] and SU(3) [6]. The partition function for the U(N) and SU(N) non-abelian gauge theories on a four-dimensional euclidean lattice is defined by

On the lattice construction of electroweak gauge theory

Based on the Ginsparg-Wilson relation, a gauge invariant formulation of electroweak SU(2)×U(1) gauge theory on the lattice is considered. If the hypercharge gauge coupling is turned off in the vacuum sector of the U(1) gauge fields, the theory consists of four left-handed SU(2) doublets and it is possible, as in vector-like theories, to make the fermion measure defined globally in all topologic...

Flux tubes in three-dimensional lattice gauge theories.

Measurements of flux-tubes generated by sources in different representations of SU(2) and U(1) lattice gauge theory in three dimensions are reported. Heavy “quarks” are considered in three representations of SU(2): fundamental (j = 1/2), adjoint (j = 1), and quartet (j = 3/2). Wilson loops are used to introduce a static quark-antiquark (QjQj) pair. Several attributes of the fields generated by ...

Gauge Invariance and Confinement in Noncompact Simulations of Su(2)

In 1980 Creutz [1] displayed quark confinement at moderate coupling in lattice simulations of both abelian and nonabelian gauge theories. Whether nonabelian confinement is as much an artifact of Wilson’s action as is abelian confinement remains unclear. The basic variables of Wilson’s formulation [2] are elements of a compact group and enter the action only through traces of their products. The...

Renormalization - Group Study of Four - Dimensional Su ( 4 ) Gauge Theory

In some recent papers, we studied pure SU(4) gauge theory with the Wilson action on a hypercubical lattice in four space t ime dimensions and found a firstorder phase transition at/3 = 10.2 [1 ], that this phase transition was not deconfining [2] and measured the asymptotic freedom scale parameter A 0 [2]. In the present paper, we wish to apply a renormalizationgroup scheme [3] for comparing th...
